Where to Stay in Chattanooga?
When choosing a hotel in Chattanooga it’s important to consider what part of town you want to be in. Will you be doing stuff downtown? at Lookout Mountain? at East Brainerd? Typically, you want to stay as close as you can to the attractions you’re visiting — especially if you will be downtown. Mostly because there really isn’t free parking, you will have to pay to park everywhere downtown.
If you want some tips on what to do once you’re there, read my post on things to do in Chattanooga. Also, take a look at my pre-made itineraries. I have a couple on Chattanooga and remember, as always, they’re free to download and use.
My room at The Edwin
Hotels in Chattanooga: The Edwin Hotel, Autograph Collection
It is located Downtown, right next to the Walnut Street bridge, which is a very popular pedestrian bridge. And, it is a five minute walk to the Tennessee Aquarium.
The Edwin is definitely one of the nicest hotels in Chattanooga. Personally, it’s the prettiest hotel I have ever stayed in. It has a modern design and feel (which I just LOVE). The staff I encountered was extremely friendly and helpful!
They have valet parking and I was impressed with how quickly they got my vehicle to me when we needed it. It is apart of Marriott so you can earn and use your points here. Needless to say, I definitely recommend this hotel.
Inside The Edwin
They have a spa (Ama Spa) that’s perfect for a relaxing evening. I had a massage there and they were absolutely wonderful. I loved being able to just walk upstairs and shower after it.
There is an outdoor rooftop pool. It was winter during my stay so I didn’t get to use the pool. However, I did walk out to see it and the views from it are very nice.
You will find two restaurants and a coffee shop in this hotel. Provisions is the coffee shop. They serve locally sourced items for breakfast and lunch. And, of course, all the different types of coffee. I had a latte here and it was tasty!

Whiskey Thief is one of the restaurants in the hotel. It’s a rooftop whiskey lounge and you have to be 21 or over to get in. Along with drinks they serve tapas. My food from here was very good — especially the fries. As you can imagine, the views were nice from up here too.
The other restaurant in the hotel is WhiteBird. They serve breakfast, lunch, and on the weekends brunch. They do take reservations and they use local ingredients.
Hotels in Chattanooga: Embassy Suites by Hilton Chattanooga Hamilton Place
It is located in the East Brainerd area of Chattanooga. It’s about a twenty minute drive to downtown. There is no valet parking, however, the hotel has a very nice parking lot. It seems to be a newer hotel and I really liked that the check out time wasn’t until 12pm. It’s not super luxurious, but I would still consider it one of the best hotels in Chattanooga.
The rooms were very nice and spacious. We had a kitchenette, a full couch, a full bathroom, and a desk in our room. They have a complimentary evening reception that includes alcoholic beverages and light snacks, it is usually between 5:30 and 6:30pm. The complimentary breakfast in the mornings is buffet style and it is made to order. It includes an omelette station, pancakes, fruit, and more. It is usually over at 10:30am. Honestly, I was very impressed by their breakfast. It was delicious and I loved how you could create your own omelette.
They have an indoor saltwater pool and a restaurant inside the hotel. Ruth’s Chris Steak house is the restaurant. They do take reservations and you can order room service from them.
The hotel is very easy to get to, it’s right off the interstate. And, there is a lot of shopping and other restaurants around it. I enjoyed staying here and I would choose to do it again.
Luxurious Hotel in Chattanooga: The Read House
One of the rooms in the lobby at The Read House
My room at The Read House
The Read House is one of the most luxurious hotels in Chattanooga. It’s located downtown and is a seventeen minute walk to the Tennessee Aquarium. It is one of the oldest hotels in Chattanooga and the decor still has a lot of 1920’s flair, but with a modern twist.
The lobby is beautiful, and each room in the lobby has a different theme. There is even a small museum section to see the hotel’s history. The rooms are also spacious and beautiful. The bathroom was quite large and had good lighting — ladies, we know good lighting is key to putting our makeup on. Haha!
They offer valet parking which I took full advantage of. It did take them a bit to retrieve my car at check out, but it was right at check out time and it was also pouring the rain.
Inside The Read House
The Read House has a very nice indoor pool, a library, two restaurants, a Starbucks, and a billiards room. One of the restaurants is called Bar and Billiards Room. It is located right off the lobby and has a speakeasy vibe. The waitresses are dressed in 1920’s attire as flappers. Everything I had here was very good, especially the Buffalo Chicken Flatbread. The billiards room is right off to the side.
The other restaurant is called Bridgeman’s Chophouse. It’s an upscale place and they do take reservations. I didn’t personally eat here but it was highly recommended by the hotel staff.
The Read House encourages guests to book directly with them. If you do you will get a glass of champagne at check in, priority opportunity for a room upgrade, and a late check out (12pm).
Is The Read House Haunted?
Rumor has it that, yes, The Read House is a haunted hotel in Chattanooga — especially room 311. A woman was murdered in this room in 1927 by a jealous lover and the room is said to be haunted by her presence.
You can stay in room 311 if you ask to specifically book it. It’s the only room in the hotel that hasn’t been updated like the rest of the hotel. Instead, it has been restored to its 1920’s state. If you don’t want to stay in the actual room, you can ask for a tour of it.
All this being said, I didn’t experience any paranormal activity during my stay here. I don’t like haunted things — I won’t even visit haunted houses…. I am a chicken when it comes to this stuff haha! To be honest I didn’t know the hotel was suppose to be haunted when I booked. Or, I wouldn’t have stayed here. But, I am very glad that I did because it was a wonderful stay!
