Glamping in Cosby, TN: A Unique Camping Experience in the Smokies [2025]
Cosby, TN is a quiet, often overlooked gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains
This small town doesn’t have the crowds or commercial feel of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, instead you’ll find a few local diners, rustic campgrounds, cozy cabins, and a whole lot of untouched nature.
I’ll be honest, I’m not much of a traditional camper. But glamping? That’s my kind of adventure! Staying in a glamping dome in Cosby was the perfect way to enjoy the outdoors without giving up comfort. Whether you’re a couple looking for a romantic escape, a family searching for a fun and unique stay, or just someone who loves nature with a little luxury—this spot might be exactly what you’re looking for.
If you’re considering glamping in Cosby, TN, here’s everything you need to know about our stay, what to expect, and why this hidden corner of the Smokies might just surprise you.
Why Choose Cosby for Glamping?
Cosby, TN is a peaceful alternative to the busy tourist hubs of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. It offers direct access to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park through the Cosby entrance, which is far less crowded than other park entry points.
The hiking trails in this area (like Hen Wallow Falls and Sutton Ridge) are easier to access, they have more available parking, and offer a quieter, more serene experience compared to the heavily trafficked trails elsewhere in the Smokies.
If you’re looking for a nature-focused getaway where you can truly relax, unplug, and enjoy the outdoors without the noise and chaos of larger towns, glamping in Cosby, TN is an ideal choice.
What Is a Glamping Dome?
A glamping dome is like a luxury tent, only better. Think of it as a spacious, round structure with a locking door and cozy, modern amenities. These domes typically feature panoramic windows that let you stargaze or catch glimpses of wildlife in the woods — all while staying comfortable and dry.
For our glamping experience in Cosby, TN, my husband and I stayed at GLAMP by Stay Minty, a unique glamping campground tucked away in the Smoky Mountains. They have eight themed domes on site, each offering its own personality and layout. The domes can accommodate anywhere from two to eight guests, making them perfect for couples, families, or small groups.
We stayed in Dome 8, which is themed Night Fever. It can sleep up to six people, and that’s the one I’ll be sharing more about in this post.
Inside the Dome: What to Expect
Our glamping dome in Cosby was surprisingly spacious and thoughtfully designed with comfort in mind. Inside we found a full bathroom, a private bedroom with a king-sized bed, and a cozy loft that included two queen beds — perfect for families or small groups. The living area had plenty of space to relax, and the kitchenette came equipped with the essentials: a hot plate (which worked great for simple meals), a full-sized refrigerator, a sink, and basic cookware.
While the dome didn’t have central air or heat, it did include wall-mounted AC and heat units, along with fans and electric blankets, which kept the temperature comfortable even at night.
Outdoor Amenities and Creekside Vibes
Outside, our dome had a wraparound deck complete with an outdoor table and chairs, plus a hot tub, perfect for soaking under the stars. Just below the deck was a fire pit surrounded by chairs, as well as a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking. One of the best parts? Our dome was creekside, so we could enjoy the peaceful sounds of running water while relaxing by the fire or soaking in the hot tub.
Connectivity and Tech Tips
The dome also offered Wi-Fi, which worked well for messaging and Wi-Fi calling (since we had no cell signal). However, the connection wasn’t strong enough to stream Netflix, so we recommend downloading shows or movies ahead of time and packing a few board games or books in case of rainy weather.

Tips for Booking and Staying
When to Book Your Trip
If you’re planning to go glamping in Cosby, TN, the best times to visit are spring and fall. Spring brings colorful wildflowers and mild temperatures, while fall offers stunning foliage and crisp, cool evenings—perfect for hot tub soaking and sitting around the fire pit. These seasons are popular, so it’s a good idea to book your dome stay a few months in advance.
What to Pack for a Glamping Trip
Packing for glamping can be tricky since you’re outdoors, but still have some comforts of home. I highly recommend packing layers—think tank tops and t-shirts for daytime, and sweatshirts or jackets for cooler evenings. I packed a mix of shorts, sweatpants, and cozy clothes, and I’m so glad I did. The temperature changed a lot throughout the day.
You’ll also want to bring a few essentials:
- Charcoal for the grill
- Firewood for the fire pit
- Groceries and snacks (we stopped at a store on the way in)
- A flashlight or lantern for walking around at night
- Board games, books, or pre-downloaded movies, since Wi-Fi can be spotty
Having these things on hand made our stay more comfortable and relaxing.
